Slice Strobe Resolume (2026 Release)
Do not rely on your mouse to trigger intense visual cues. Map your slice strobes to hardware:
For users running Resolume Avenue (which lacks Advanced Output slice routing) or those who want a quick canvas-based workaround, the Crop effect can simulate slices.
| Goal | Setting | | :--- | :--- | | | Strobe: 1/4 , Slice: 8 Cols, Offset LFO @ 4 Hz | | Techno Scanning | Strobe: 1/8T (triplet), Slice: 1 Row, Offset BPM Ramp | | Glitch Text | Slice: 16 Cols, Strobe: 1/2 (slow), Blend Mode: Difference | | Warp Speed | Strobe: 1/32 , Slice: 2 Rows + Feedback effect |
The strobe looks like a flickering lightbulb, not a rhythmic effect. Solution: Turn off Hold and Fade in the Strobe effect. Set Hold to 0 and Fade to 0 for a square wave chop. slice strobe resolume
Instead of applying a strobe effect to your main content layer, you will dedicate a specific layer to handle the strobing.
There are two primary methods to achieve a slice strobe in Resolume Arena: using the method or using the Layer Router method. The Layer Router method is the most flexible and widely used by professional VJs. Step 1: Set Up Your Advanced Output Slices Before creating the effect, you must have a mapped stage.
Open Advanced Output. Create your slices (e.g., Slice 1: Left Wing , Slice 2: Right Wing ). Do not rely on your mouse to trigger intense visual cues
In Advanced Output, create a DMX Lumiverse and add your DMX Slices (fixtures).
Link the opacity of each slice to a step-sequencer or an envelope animated by the audio input.
When the set ended, lights returning to warmth, the slices collapsed back into whole frames. The night resumed its ordinary continuity, and memories of the strobe sat like edit points in the mind, precise and abrupt. Later, perhaps, someone would try to describe what it felt like; words would falter—how to measure the sway of pupils, the caffeine-quickened synapses—and so the recounting would default to metaphor: a heartbeat, a blade, a laugh. Solution: Turn off Hold and Fade in the Strobe effect
Inside the effect settings, animate the slice selection parameter using Resolume’s internal BPM Sync or Animate (Timeline) function.
Instead of strobing your entire video output or a global composition, a slice strobe targets exact geometric areas of your canvas, LED screen panels, or DMX fixture arrays. Why Use Slice Strobes?
The is a versatile tool that bridges the gap between video and lighting. By using the Advanced Output to apply effects to specific slices, you can turn a simple video mapping into a high-energy visual experience that feels tightly integrated with the music.
